As you probably already heard, there’s been an increasing shift toward mental health awareness and acceptance in today’s society. This is opposed to the long-standing taboo surrounding mental health, where if a person showed symptoms of mental health issues, they were often stigmatized or dismissed as “just being different.” It’s even great that individuals with
After the past several years, it’s all too easy to forget that some individuals still struggle with getting routine shots and vaccinations. This is especially true for younger individuals and adults who struggle to cope with autism, ADHD, and other conditions.
Each year, it’s a very challenging task to get individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities to take their flu shots or other necessary vaccinations.
The good news is that a specialized, seasonal vaccine clinic opens each year at UC Davis to address the needs of these individuals. The PATH Vaccination clinic offers flu vaccines and annual Covid-19 boosters to everyone who is older than 6 months. They primarily serve individuals with neurodevelopmental conditions and their siblings.
The staff at this clinic are specially equipped to deal with anxiety and sensory challenges associated with vaccination. The staff also understands that some patients have had negative experiences or even trauma around shots, medical appointments, or blood draws.
That’s why they approach each patient with as much patience as possible to create a positive health care experience. The staff doesn’t believe in rushing through appointments, and they strive to create a calm environment. The staff members understand that building up positive healthcare experiences over time will help reduce that anxiety.
Thanks to these innovative methods and patient caregiving, the facility has a 100% success rate in terms of vaccinations at appointments!
Right now, the PATH Vaccination Clinic is open on Fridays from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. through December 20th. Even better, you don’t have to be a patient at UC Davis Health in order to schedule a vaccination there. The clinic currently is not accepting walk-ins, so you’ll need to schedule an appointment. You can do so by calling (916) 703-5555.
