I traveled to Disneyland with an autistic child – this was my family’s experience

Eddie’s Mom couldn’t believe it. She witnessed with unbelief as her son showed exhilaration while they were on tour at Disney’s Buzz Lightyear ride, traveling in a cable car and astonishingly hitting imaginary targets with laser guns at virtual extraterrestrial creatures. Her son’s excitement was palpable as he even exclaimed, “This is the most incredible ride ever!”

Eddie’s Autism Condition

Just a few years ago, Young Eddie was a different person. He was plagued with anxiety during his time at a mainstream primary school and rarely wanted to leave the safety of their home for an entire year.  It wasn’t until 2019 that he was officially diagnosed with autism.

According to the doctors, the condition may have first surfaced as early as his toddler years. After Eddie’s diagnosis, his Mom soon embarked on a long and arduous battle with the local authorities to get him into the best school for children with autism and special needs. Finally, in June, Eddie started attending this specialized school, and since then, his confidence has soared to great heights.

It’s not an overstatement to say that this change has transformed their entire family’s life for the better. With support from a loving mother and access to proper educational resources and quality therapeutic services, Eddie is now able to thrive and enjoy moments of pure joy like never before.

Eddie enjoys Trip

This year, the family unanimously decided to forgo hosting a traditional birthday party in favor of taking a trip to the iconic Disneyland Paris. Initially, they were slightly worried about how Eddie’s sensory processing disorder would affect him in a place filled with loud noises, bright lights, and stimulating attractions. However, it turned out to be a memorable and joyous experience for the entire family.

First, they tried to prepare Eddie for the trip by introducing him to the characters from his favorite movie, Frozen. This helped him become familiar and comfortable with them, making meeting them in person a delightful experience. On the day of the trip, they were greeted with a magical atmosphere that felt like stepping into the world of Frozen, complete with a castle, shops, a gazebo, and even its own little train.

The family spent the entire day exploring various attractions together, with Eddie enjoying every moment without any meltdowns or sensory overload episodes. As they left Disneyland Paris, the family couldn’t help but feel grateful for this amazing experience that wouldn’t have been possible without Eddie’s progress and development over the years.
