Music performance for Autistic kids in Sacramento

An Elk Grove man is using music and movement to open free, welcoming spaces where children with autism can learn, perform, and just be themselves.

Jerry Turner, the founder of Jerry’s World, puts on pop-up music performances made with autistic children and their families in mind. Everything is free, and the focus stays on joy, taking part, and real connection instead of pressure.

How Jerry’s World Began

Turner got the idea about ten years ago while working with at-risk youth at Capital Elementary right after finishing at Sacramento State. He noticed the kids held onto lessons better when he sang the material. That simple observation turned into a whole approach that uses music and movement to reach children who often find regular settings hard.

These days he brings the same energy to pop-up shows, sometimes showing up in a bright red jalapeno suit that makes the kids smile and feel more at ease.

A Space Built for Comfort and Expression

At the performances, children get to move, sing, and join in at whatever pace feels right for them. Families often say finding the right resources still feels like an uphill climb, and the long-term costs of support make free, inclusive events especially valuable.

Turner works with a lot of families who have children on the spectrum. He understands the daily challenges and the money side of things. What he wants most is to create moments where kids feel accepted, and parents can meet others who get it.

Why Music and Movement Matter

Music can open doors for communication, self-expression, and calm in ways talking sometimes cannot. For many autistic children, rhythm and shared songs become a comfortable way into social interaction and learning. These kinds of events work well alongside more structured support by giving kids low-pressure chances to practice skills while having fun.

What Comes After the Music Stops

One afternoon of singing and movement can light something up in a child. Many parents ask how to keep that spark going once the event is over.

Steady, individualized therapy is one of the most reliable ways to turn those short bursts of progress into lasting skills. If you have been looking for ABA therapy that respects your child’s pace and builds on the strengths you already see, our team in the Sacramento area is ready to talk with you.
