Spanish-Speaking Families Invited to Annual Conference on Autism and Developmental Services

Spanish-speaking families will find focused support this September at the UC Davis MIND Institute.

The eighth annual Aprendiendo Juntos conference takes place Saturday, September 19, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the institute on 50th Street in Sacramento. The name means “learning together,” and every part of the day runs in Spanish.

Families, specialists, agencies, and people with personal experience of developmental disabilities will gather under one roof. Roughly twenty community groups will set up tables with information and resources.

Built Around the Questions Families Actually Have

Maribel Hernandez, community outreach specialist and conference coordinator, calls the event a place where the Hispanic community can find real information and support that strengthens the futures of people with developmental disabilities.

Health care, school systems, services and benefits often feel complicated. Hernandez says one of the moments she values most each year is when someone walks up and says they had no idea a certain resource existed or that the information could change a life.

This year’s theme looks at how to turn challenges into clearer paths toward well-being. Sessions will cover diagnosis, education, moving into adulthood, mental health, behavior support, services and benefits, individual rights, and local community resources.

Partners and How to Register

The MIND Institutes University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities hosts the day with help from Alta California Regional Center, the California Department of Developmental Services, Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund, WarmLine Family Resource Center, CommuniCare+OLE, Support for Families of Children with Disabilities and Parents Helping Parents.

The registration fee is $110. Reduced fee and scholarship spots are available. Families already connected to a regional center should check with their service coordinator for authorization before signing up. No child care is offered, so the day is meant for adults. Registration stays open through September 16.

Help That Continues After the Conference Ends

A single day of learning and connections can open doors. Ongoing progress for autistic children usually comes from steady, individualized support that fits each child.

At Sacramento ABA, we offer personalized ABA therapy that focuses on communication, emotional regulation, and everyday skills. Our clinicians sit down with each child and family, set clear goals, and track real progress. We also guide families through insurance questions and the practical steps needed to start services.
