Meet NineFingers, a passionate musician known for his unique ability to blend various musical styles. At the tender age of 12, he’d pick up a guitar and play his heart out. As any parent would attest, children’s emergencies can always quickly escalate and cause tension & distress. It can even be more overwhelming when dealing with a family member who has sensory sensitivities. In such situations, the best advice is to ensure a child’s composure and safety assurance.
Recognizing this critical need, the Modesto Police Department has strategically enhanced its resources with specialized tools designed to help children on the spectrum maintain calm during pressures and emergencies.
Innovative Carter Kits.
Among the tools they have implemented are the innovative Carter Kits. Inside these Kits, one would discover a myriad of sensory devices designed to engage a child’s sensory preferences. Specifically, inside the kid, you can find a weighted blanket meant to provide deep pressure stimulation and a soothing experience for children with autism.
The kits is also equipped with an assortment of sensory toys, each meticulously selected for its diverse auditory, tactile, and visual appeal, to occupy and distract young minds from overwhelming stimuli. Not to mention that a series of pictograms is meant to ease communication during emergency scenarios, including police, fire, and medical facilities, alongside the comforting image of home. These will come in handy, especially when officers are communicating with Non-verbal children.
Effective communication and efficiency of ongoing investigations
These kits pioneered through a forward-thinking collaboration proposed to the department last June, serve as an indispensable resource. Lieutenant Joseph Bottom emphasizes that these provisions address immediate needs and reflect a broader commitment to inclusivity and sensitivity in policing.
Early Intervention
We at Sacramento ABA positively acknowledge the department’s and officers’ commitment to embracing tools that cater to diverse community needs. By equipping officers with Carter Kits, they are better prepared to interact sensitively and effectively in situations where communication barriers might arise, such as when dealing with Autistic children.
Early Intervention
Early intervention is a crucial aspect of Sacramento ABA’s mission because it has been proven to significantly improve the outcomes for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) by addressing social, emotional, and developmental needs at a critical stage.
At Sacramento ABA Therapy, our programs are tailored to provide personalized support, using evidence-based strategies to foster growth and learning. We also collaborate closely with families and caregivers to create supportive environments during treatment.
