There’s something powerful about watching someone keep moving forward, one step at a time, even when the path looks different. In Sacramento, a young man named John Almeda and his dedicated mother have turned that simple act of running into something much bigger, a welcoming community that brings hundreds of families together. John’s Inspiring Journey
This is really positive news for families in Sacramento and Northern California. The UC Davis MIND Institute is creating a new program called PAIR, in full, Partnership for Inclusive Research.
They are reaching out to autistic people, family members, caregivers, and advocates to help guide the future of their research and services.
Instead of researchers working in isolation, the MIND Institute wants people with real-life experience to sit at the table and share what actually matters most to them and their families.
What PAIR is Really About
PAIR is not another research study where you are just a participant. It is a genuine partnership. Members can join meetings, discussion groups, workshops, and surveys to give honest feedback.
Their input will help shape how studies are designed, how programs are run, and how families are supported.
The best part is there’s no heavy commitment. You can sign up, see what feels right, and choose how involved you want to be. Meetings happen about three times a year, both in-person and online, and the first training sessions start in early June. This feels like a meaningful step toward making research and care more relevant to the people who need it most.
Why This Kind of Community Involvement Matters
For years, many families have felt that research sometimes misses the real daily struggles they face.
When autistic individuals and their families have a real say, the work becomes more useful and respectful.
The MIND Institute has partnered with the community for over 20 years, but PAIR aims to make that collaboration much deeper and more consistent across everything they do.
In our region, many families still struggle to find timely help, understanding professionals, and services that truly fit their needs. Programs like PAIR give hope that things can improve when voices from the community are truly heard.
How Sacramento ABA Supports Local Families
At Sacramento ABA, we listen to families and focus on giving them real, practical help. That’s what drives us to offer ABA therapy.
It’s about a caring, evidence-based approach that helps improve the lives of autistic kids and build meaningful skills—such as communicating more effectively, forming connections with others, managing daily routines, and managing their emotions and behaviors.
It can make a real difference, especially for children who struggle with speaking, making friends, or adapting to everyday changes.
Our ABA programs are often covered by insurance and California Medi-Cal for eligible families, making consistent help more accessible for many households.
At Sacramento ABA, we care. That is why we share
We’re glad to share stories like this because real community partnerships can lead to better outcomes for everyone. Every effort to listen and include families makes a difference.
